HI bloggers, Pao is hereπ
π,today I am going to talk about Kate Sheppard. Kate Sheppard was a very important New Zealander because she helped to get women the right to vote. That made New Zealand the first country to let women vote in history. That all happened in 1893. To remember Kate Sheppard’s role in giving women the vote, her image on our $10 note. That was just a quick fact about Kate Sheppard. Let me tell you some more facts Kate Sheppard.
1. Kate Sheppard's sibling is Isabella May
2. Kate Sheppard's child is Douglas Sheppard
3. Kate Sheppard's parents are Jemima Crawford Souter and Andrew Wilson Malcolm
Those were some facts about Kate Sheppard. Did you know them? I did! Our task was to Imagine that the government has decided to create a new $10 bank note. They want to replace Kate with a picture of a different NZ woman. We had to tell who you think should be put on the new $10 note. We have to provide it with a picture of the amazing woman and explain why you think she should be chosen. So here it is.
I think it should be Malala Yousafzai because back then, girls from Pakistan were not allowed to go to school. In 2012, she got shot at travelling from home to school. Once Malala got better, she fought for the rights of all women and girls to be able to go to school. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize - the youngest person to ever receive this prize. Thats why I think she should be the women. What do you think?
Thank you for watching

ReplyDeleteNamaste Pao, I hope you’re enjoying the sunshine today!
Thank you for doing week two, day three, activity one! I think Malala Yousafzai is one of the most incredible women on the planet, her bravery and courage is so inspiring and shows that girls can do ANYTHING! Have you read her book?
I know you’ve finished all the activities now, but if you go back and edit any of them, just make sure you’ve read the activity instructions really carefully, as this activity actually asks you to choose another woman from NZ and Malala is from Pakistan.
Have a fantastic day Pao,
Eliza :)
